On Aug. 25 Israel led an airstrike on Zibqin in southern Lebanon after saying it had detected preparations for a large-scale attack by the Iran backed militant group, Hezbollah. In response to the Israeli strike, Hezbollah aimed hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel. The escalation started during ongoing talks in Egypt's capital, Cairo, to negotiate a deal between Israel and Hamas that would end Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip and secure the release of hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.
Whenever Israel subsequently bombs Gaza, it activates Iran’s axis of resistance. Israel needs to think about getting the remaining hostages out of Gaza back home to their families. Although Israel protects itself, the people in Gaza are being affected, their homes are being bombed, their families are being displaced and more. Everyone in the Gaza Strip and around the world is watching Israel and every time Israel makes a strike somewhere, it affects the people in Gaza more.
Hezbollah is not also liked by the Lebanese people, because in other countries these militant groups are classified as terrorists.
Ever since October 7, 2023, Israel and Iran had an increased exchange of military confrontations, which prompted more conflicts between the two countries to escalate. I understand why Israel and Iran would have more military confrontations, because Hamas, which gets funds and training from Iran, killed, tortured and burned millions of Jews and hostages, and some other militant groups helped. So, of course, Israel would try to strike at the Hamas and Iran, especially when they are feeling threatened.
Right now, the world just wants the strikes and bombs between Israel and Iran to stop and for the Hamas and Israel war to end. The world also wants Hamas to release the rest of hostages in Gaza to Israel. To this day, the world continues to shout for the end of a 52-year-old conflict in the Middle East. The protests persist as the world watches and the death toll in Gaza and Israel rise. The number of losses continues to tick up, more people in Gaza are displaced and bombs continue to rain, all the while another war brews, one that has been alive for the last decade.
Peace will not ensue. The bombing has become too casual, the deaths have left women and men desensitized, children are even thrown into the crossfire. Why is this the case?
Why throughout this decade-long conflict has there been no resolution? There cannot be a solution when both sides are heavily opposed, not until common ground is found. In the meantime, the conflict will pause but not end. Neither side of this war will find common ground, not when religious and political gain are at play. In the case of these events human life is disregarded, innocents are targeted and killed and those in Gaza have no choice but to endure this because of the decisions of militant forces.
