The Mount’s athletic department has announced the appointment of Liis Abbott as the new head coach of the women’s soccer team.
Abbott’s journey to becoming the head coach at Mount St. Mary’s has been fast paced, but she is grateful for this opportunity. “It has been great to get to know the community here, get started with the team, and start the next chapter of my life at a place that has been very welcoming,” Abbott said.
Her passion for the game and the positive environment at the Mount were key factors in her decision to take on this new challenge.
Before joining Mount St. Mary’s, Abbott served as the assistant coach and associate head coach at the University of Maine.
During her time there, Abbott was part of the team that achieved historic success, helping the University win its first ever America East Conference title in 2023, followed by another conference championship in 2024.
She is excited about the future of the Women’s soccer team. “I was looking to take the next step in my coaching career, and when Mount's job came up, I realized pretty quickly that the location, athletic department, and goals were pretty much ideal to what I was looking for. Sometimes you just feel like something is meant to be for you, and this was one of those times,” Abbott explained.
The Women’s soccer team has already felt the positive impact of Abbott’s arrival. Nicole Wilson (C’26), expressed her enthusiasm about the new coach. “I love the new coach! She is easy to talk to, has a good energy, and is bringing about good changes. Her ideas and things she wants to implement have made me excited for her to be our new coach,” Wilson said.
As the team looks to the future, Abbott’s coaching philosophy centers on building strong relationships with the players.
With her experience, energy, and vision, the team is poised for success and the entire Mount community is eager to see what lies ahead.
