Second Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

On Sunday, Sept. 15, former President Donald Trump experienced a second assassination attempt. This is only two months after his first assassination attempt.

Trump was golfing at his Trump International Golf Club in Florida around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. He had no plans for the day, so he made a last-minute decision to golf. Trump was between the fifth and sixth hole, when a Secret Service member noticed the gunman hiding in shrubs. The Secret Service agent shot at the gunman before he had an attempt to shoot Trump.

The gunman, Ryan Routh, fled the scene, driving a car with a stolen license plate. A bystander recorded the license plate number, and the Secret Service tracked down Routh. Routh was taken into custody and charged on the following Monday with possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Routh was hiding in shrubs along the public side of the fence at Trump’s golf course. It is suspected that Routh was waiting in the shrubs for almost 12 hours.

Routh is an ex-Trump supporter, and a loyal Ukraine supporter. In 2002, Routh lost the right to own a gun, because he was convicted for owning an unregistered automatic gun which is a felony. Since then, he has acquired an array of other felonies on his record.

Trump has requested more Secret Service personnel, but this request will probably not be granted. The Secret Service is currently 400 employees short, and as a former President, Trump does not have as many agents allotted to him as a current president would.

This leads to many questions: Even with a Secret Service shortage, why weren’t better safety procedures in place? And how did the gunman know about Trump’s last-minute decision to go golfing?

Trump is convinced the Democrats are behind this because neither Biden nor Harris have had an attempt on their life, much less two in the last two months.

Two days after the attempt, Trump stated at a town hall meeting in Michigan, “You know, only consequential presidents get shot at.”

Sunday evening, Joe Biden stated, “As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety.”
