The Mount Graduate Program is well-respected and has a convenient flexible format for those working. Courses are held both online and in person in the evening on their Frederick campus and several courses are also held on the main campus in Emmitsburg.
Courses are typically offered in five to seven- or eight-week sessions, instead of the traditional 15-week semesters, allowing students to finish your program faster. It also provides graduate certificates. Some examples are advanced study in reading, data science, international design and technology, project management and organizational development.
The program offers a graduate assistantship that is a highly competitive graduate assistantship to provide an opportunity for graduate students to further their knowledge in both academic and professional fields through involvement in different areas of the university. Sadly, the program has limited majors. The program does not offer philosophical studies, business administration, medical science, science in health administration and education in reading.
Graduate assistants receive an annual stipend and tuition remission in compensation for their service to the university. The graduate assistantship application is by invitation only for students who have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher and have been admitted into a graduate degree program. Frederick Campus’ Associate Director of Recruitment, Valerie Pearson stated, “we offer graduate students assistant opportunities for students who want to work at the university while they pursue their graduate degree, and it helps to cover a lot of the expenses.”
Even though they do not exactly have scholarships, they have other options to help the graduate students to pay off their tuition. Sometimes graduate students can live on campus only if they have open rooms, which is rare. Pearson continued, “It is difficult to say if there are rooms available for these students.”
If any current undergraduate plans to join a graduate program, the Mount has benefits for them. Pearson added, “We offer a number of four plus one opportunities, so students can start their graduate program during their senior year of undergraduate here at the Mount, which helps to accelerate both programs and increase your learning at an earlier stage. The application process is also much easier if you are a current Mount student because we can upload your transcript for you which helps to lessen your worries in sending them.
You also usually already have relationships built with the professors who teach the classes, which goes a long way.” The Mount will always have opportunities for every student, no matter their backgrounds but of course, you always must put in the work.
