Brooke Molchanoff is a first-year student from Cicero, New York. This past week, she was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week, for her strong contributions to the women’s lacrosse team.

Molchanoff has been playing lacrosse since she was in kindergarten. She grew up in a lacrosse family, with both her dad and sister playing lacrosse. Her sister Molly also plays for the Mount’s lacrosse team. Molchanoff’s position is midfield, meaning she plays both offense and defense.

When asked how she felt about being honored as MAAC Rookie of the Week, Molchanoff reported, “It feels really good to get recognition from the MAAC. To represent the Mount is really special. Not a lot of the girls [on the team] have gotten awards from the MAAC, so it’s cool to be the first.”

Molchanoff is a business major. Outside of school and lacrosse, she loves hanging out with her friends and teammates. She said the lacrosse team is very close, and every Monday night they watch The Bachelor together.

Originally, Molchanoff was not committed to the Mount, but she loves playing lacrosse for the Mount. She said, “The girls are great, I love my teammates, the coaches are awesome—it’s just a great environment here.”

Head Coach Lo Skellchock said Brooke has made an immediate impact on the team. She said Molchanoff is an offensive threat will the ball, a strong shooter, and is quick on the draw. She has scored 15 points so far this season, distributed into eight goals and seven assists. She ranks fifth for the women’s lacrosse team pointwise. Skellchock said she and her sister playing together has been a “one-two punch.”

Along with being a strong offensive player, Skellchock reported, “She is really starting to show up defensively too, finding her way, and being a strong contributor.”

Skellchock said that the team’s eight non-conference games have helped prepare them for the MAAC conference games. “I believe that we have every puzzle piece we need to make us successful. We’re fighting, we’re learning, and that all is going to show in the upcoming games.”

So far, the women’s lacrosse team has won five out of nine games. Congratulations to Molchanoff for being the MAAC Rookie of the Week and come out to support the team!
