Residence Life, APC Community, Public Safety and the Title IX Office held the No Booze Bash at the PAC October 23. This event was made so students could have a good time with refreshing non-alcoholic beverages.
Those who attended the event enjoyed karaoke, trivia and a costume contest. The event had festive snacks and mocktails. This included fun drinks with the names of Vampire Blood and Pumpkin Guts. These were fun mocktails that had students feeling festive for the Halloween season approaching.
Overall, the event seemed to be quite popular among the students, especially the karaoke where we saw students sing their hearts out while decked out in their costumes. Even though some students did not attend in costumes, they seemed to have a good festive time!
I had the opportunity to interview students such as Isabelle Demelo (C’25). She is an RA in Powell and helped create this event for a safe atmosphere for students.
When asked about the reason for the No Booze Bash’s existence, Demelo claimed that “Halloween boasts a higher percentage of alcohol related incidents.”
The organizations in charge of the Bash hoped to use the event as not only a fun Halloween party, but also as a means of informing students about how to stay safe while still having fun during the spooky season. The event is trying to encourage students to stay away from alcoholic beverages and have fun in other ways.
The positive reception of the No Booze Bash was refreshing to see, given the stigma of drinking among universities during the Halloween season. It’s very likely that the organizations behind the No Booze Bash may get together to host an event like this in the future.
We are hoping to see you at the next event!
